Upon the death of the insured, the claim amount under the health insurance policy is received by the nominee. If no nominee exists, the insurance company requires a succession certificate from a court of law to authorize them to disburse the claim proceeds. The insurer also has the option of depositing the claim in the court so that disbursement may be made to the deceased’s legal heirs.
