We have already advised our clients in previous articles about the importance of health insurance and why it has become a necessity rather that a choice. By opting to buy a health insurance policy you have already taken a very wise decision, but at the same time you need to be punctual on renewing your policy on time every year.

Lets look at the advantages of renewing your policy on time.

  • For each claim free year, a bonus of five per cent is added to your sum insured subject to a limit of 40 to 50% percent, depending upon your insurance company.
  • If you have renewed before the expiry and Even if you have a claim in the next day of the renewal date, you are entitled for reimbursement of expenses.

Now, Lets look at the disadvantages.

  • If you have registered a pre-existing disease/illness, you would be covered for the same after three or four years from the date of commencement of your health insurance policy. If you do not renew on time and there is a break, you may again have to wait for 3 to 4 years for these pre-existing diseases to be considered in your policy.
  • In case you have made a claim, then it becomes even more important to renew your policy on time otherwise, this claim would be considered as a pre-existing disease and your premium may go higher for the new policy.

Our advice to our customers would be to renew your policy before the expiry date and avail the full benefit of your health insurance policy.
